MELISSA'S THEORETICAL ORIENTATION
My early training was in psychodynamic theory, which means I believe in the importance of exploring your early relationships and how they may contribute to ongoing patterns in your life. However my experience has taught me that my approach should be individualized to your needs. I am sensitive to the importance of understanding your intersecting identities and how they will also inform our work.
To that end, I integrate interpersonal, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral and solution focused techniques into my work. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for the treatment of trauma & PTSD. I may also integrate some more directive or behavioral techniques as needed to help you get the best result. Together we will build a collaborative relationship through which you will gain enhanced awareness of your experience as well as insight to its impact on you.
My approach is genuine, thorough, and compassionate.
Julie Gulemi, LMSW
Julie is a licensed master social worker (LMSW) with a degree from the University of Southern
California.
Growing up, Julie worked as a Ford model in NYC for ten years, appearing in Teen Vogue,
CosmoGirl, and Seventeen Magazine. Facing pressure to engage in unhealthy behaviors in order to
continue working, she decided to leave her modeling career and created, “You Are Immeasurably More,” a
program for teens and adults focused on body image, health at every size (HAES) and self-acceptance.
She created and led camps, classes, presentations and retreats in this subject area.
Julie has also spent time working in private practice with adolescents and adults treating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, bi-polar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and many other behavioral and emotional concerns. She most recently worked as a therapist in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program for eating disorders.
Julie’s approach is client-centered and trauma-informed. Understanding that trauma is often at the root of symptoms, she emphasizes the mind-body connection while incorporating aspects of CBT and DBT. Julie tailors her approach to fit the needs of each individual client. Her firsthand knowledge of
the importance of a sense of safety in the healing process allows her to create a warm, compassionate,
and inclusive space for her clients.
